“Nito huli ko lang
napagtantong sa bawat dilig at kalinga’t pagmamahal na inialay naming sa
kanila, kami pala ang siyang lubos na dinidilig at kinakalinga’t minamahal nila
nuong una pa lang. At ganu’n nga ang gulayan naming --- isang metapora ng
mutualismong ugnayan ng tao’t kalikasan.” A line from Christopher S. Rosales’
award-winning of Carlos Palanca Award in Kabataan Essay 2010 “Gulayan Klasrum.”
Vegetables are one of our sources of energy, they are the healthiest choice of
food we could eat. From this, we could say that they are the ones who show love
and care for us human. Not only on what we eat, they also provide us fresh air
to breath, nice place to stay under it. If they take care of us, we should also
start of giving back on what they gave to us so that in return they could still
provide it to us. We should start to have our own garden where we could plant
different vegetables, to eat or grow an ornamental plant to use it as a
decoration in our homes. There are so much we could do in return that will also
benefit as back, it is only a matter or willingness and an appreciation to
mother earth by taking care of God’s gifts.

This is the atis sapling we grew in our backyard. When it is big enough as a tree we could dig deeper to plant it. |

Before this was only a length of a ruler but now it grew very tall. |

Ashitaba plant is known as 'tomorrow leaf' because while leaving for overnight a new and small leaf will pop out from its stem. |
In our home we grew atis tree and ashitaba plant. My uncle just asked for a short stem of atis tree to grew it in our backyard now we can see the difference how this plant grew very tall. We bought the ashitaba plant very small, but now its leaf is very useful in many ways, this could be added in a tea and even garnish for foods. Growing plants could take so much courage to maintain this and be a part of everyone's routine. Through gardening we could create a positive atmosphere in our home and this would be a great recreation activity to spend on whenever we need to loosen up.
